  • Reduce false positives with masking

    Mask off a portion of the field of view of the thermal camera, so that movement in the masked off region won’t trigger a recording. This is useful if you have some areas that have movement that you’re not interested in. For example, water, sky, or foliage.

    This is an analysis of how birdlife is changing in Akaroa. It was created by re-processing historic bird recordings now that many more birds can be automatically recognised. Tui and bellbirds have increased significantly, while blackbirds and morepork have decreased.

    We have just released our latest bird recognition model that greatly expands the number of birds that we recognise to over 60. This uses data from DOC and eBird.

  • New tags mainly for Australian animals

    New tags are now available for horse, camel, donkey, antechinus, pygmy possum, feathertail glider, sugar glider, quoll, flying fox, and vole. Surprisingly Bynyip and drop bear are also available.

    Lots of software improvements: Improved bird classification, Overlay photos on by default, stopped emails working in audio only mode, tracking improvements for thermal videos, mobile UI improvements, controls to change the size of an audio track, password remembering and reset on Sidekick, 5 min audio recording button and upload notifications.

  • Reviewing audio and using photos on browse-next

    Audio recordings can now be reviewed on the new version of the Cacophony Portal. The location photo feature has been fixed and now works on this new version, with an transparency slider that lets you see the photo and the thermal video at the same time. This makes it easier to interpret the thermal videos.

  • Number of tracks in a video limited to 10

    We have deployed a new algorithm that limits the number of tracks in a video to 10. This is to make your tagging experience easier.
