Reduce false positives with masking
A recent feature that we’ve added is the ability to mask off a portion of the field of view of the thermal camera, so that movement in the masked off region won’t trigger a recording. This is useful if you have some areas that have movement that you’re not interested in. For example, water, sky, or foliage.
This video shows you how to create a mask.
Note: The functionality to get an alert when an animal enters an area isn't working yet.
For those who don't want to watch a video here are the instructions:
- Go to devices on the left hand side and click on your camera number
- Select the set up tab at the top
- Click on Define mask regions (optional) link on the left
- Click the Add a new mask region button
- Click to make a shape around the region you want to mask - clicking on your first point to finish the shape
- Give your mask region a name (like sky).
- Assuming your camera is connected and in low power mode. The mask will take effect the next time the camera connects to the server.

It's only really necessary to add a mask if your camera is making an excessive amount of recordings from non animal movement such as foliage or waves. A mask will result in fewer recordings, saving battery, bandwidth and time analysing recordings.
