Wi-Fi range extender

This solar powered Wi-Fi range extender contains a 4G Wi-Fi module that is enclosed in a waterproof solar battery pack. It contains a USB port for the Wi-Fi module which takes a SIM card (sold separately, or you can provide your own). When the module is plugged into the USB port a permanent WiFi network is set up.

This is designed when your camera is just out of 4G coverage. This may be when it’s down a gully or just on the edge of coverage. The extender can be positioned where it has coverage and the Wi-Fi broadcast to the camera. The range of the Wi-Fi will vary with conditions but has been able to connect with a direct line of sight 150m away under ideal conditions.

Just like the solar battery pack this can be supplied with batteries in New Zealand, or you can insert your own Lithium Ion batteries.  It can be purchased with a solar panel, or just a plug, so you can attach your own panel.

With no charging, the module will stay powered for about 2 days. This will vary depending on the strength of the 4G signal and the amount of data transmitted.

By default the WiFi network is set up as a bushnet network that the DOC AI Cam will connect to, with no setup. However you can plug the Wi-Fi module into a PC and set up any WiFi network name and password.

Although this is designed to work with the DOC AI Cam, it could be used for any outdoor situation where you need a waterproof, solar powered Wi-Fi network.

There is an option to buy a separate power supply if you want to charge the batteries before you take them out.
