Updated Sidekick: bird monitor set up & bug fixes
A new version of Sidekick will be available shortly on iOS and Android. The main new feature is an easy way to set up the audio monitoring on the DOC AI Camera. We've also added some optional logging and bug fixes.
Audio settings.
Our recently released audio bird monitoring can be easily configured using the new audio tab. Click on the Audio tab and select the mode:
- Disabled
- Audio only
- Audio and Thermal
- Audio or Thermal
For whatever mode is chosen, the bars below show when the audio and thermal recordings will be made.
If you have selected a mode where audio is enabled then you can also initiate a test audio recording.
If you select audio only then the camera module is powered down and you will not be able to preview the camera when you click the camera tab.
Activity logging
In order to understand how people are using the Sidekick app and where they are having problems we have added activity tracking. When you first open the app you will be asked for your consent for this to be linked to your account's email address.
You can turn the personalised tracking on or off by clicking the setting cog at the bottom right of the screen, pressing the arrow beside your email address and then selecting either revoke or accept personal tracking. If you are having problems using Sidekick then it will be useful for us if you have this tracking on to diagnose what is happening.
Bug fixes
We have fixed a number of bugs with the app.- Occasionally the app would show a white screen on start up. This has been fixed.
- Previously connected cameras are no longer shown when the app starts up.
- If there are cameras connected when you press the find device button then they will be shown.
- We've expanded the number of ways the app looks for cameras, meaning the app should work with a wider range of phones.
- On iPhone you can deny permissions for the app to access the local network. This will stop the app from connecting to a camera. We now detect this and prompt you to grant the permissions.
